Volunteering and charity are ways in which we practice generosity that bring benefit to others and ourselves. Generosity of spirit does the same.

But one form of generosity I find heartbreakingly lacking is the removal from the grasp of lower-middle class and impoverished people of access to meditation supplies and sometimes meditation communities.

Benches, zafus and zabutons are priced way beyond construction costs. Some centers cost up to $40 a month for "membership." And yoga? Forget it. Not even middle class people can afford $12 a class.

It's very sad, but so many people, in order to turn a larger profit, keep the dharma away from some of those who need it most.
