Dear Dia-La, Here I am, idly wandering around online, in my little room in NYC, I decide to need to order some shrine supplies, and I end up finding this completely lovely piece of writing by you. It just fills me with all sorts of thoughts & emotions. I do miss Vermont, I miss Karme Choling (though I don't know what that means...what IS Karme Choling now?), and I miss you. I think of you quite often and so curious to know what you're making out of life currently. I'm New York -- I came down last March and ended up staying. I'm fairly content here; Larry is very kind to me and we are perhaps closer than we've ever been, after 33 years (how strange). In May, I will be 60 years old -- now that is GENUINELY strange. I'm writing every day, working on a memoir, marinating in memories from all kinds of periods, places, people & adventures. I find I've had a fairly interesting life. But it's truly, weirdly strange to be so OLD. Fine for other people of course, but this is ME.
I do miss you and think of you and Eric so often, and would love to be back in touch. If you and E would ever like to visit NYC, you always have a place to stay, as long as you give us a little notice.
My body is not in good shape, I can't be on my feet much or walk much, though I keep trying, it's important not to give ground too easily. But I'm not suffering, in fact I feel rather grounded and content. I feel mostly that I've had so many experiences, travels, loves, adventures, and that now is the time to be settled (as much as such a concept will ever apply to me) and to write it all down.
Sheesh, forgive me for this personal letter on a public website. I was moved by your piece -- really you are such a wonderful, clear writer -- and wanted to write, right away. Would love to hear from you. Much love to Eric.
